Karen & Fred – an authentic couple
Karen and I first met at my 16th birthday party. My best friend at the time pointed out a cute blonde who had caught his attention and so I moved in to say hello. Later that year we attended a summer picnic with a club that our parents belonged to. It was here that I realized how special she was. It was a quiet moment, we had decided to go for a walk through the forest along the creek. We talked about school and what we would do in the future and for the first time I found myself free to be just ME. We became BFFs and got married when we were 18.
For the first 20 years we did what most couples do: raise a family of 3, get a job, and pursue a career. Karen became what she always wanted to be – a nurse – and I worked doing renovations. It wasn’t until my children started having adult relationships that I realized my calling – helping couples to become powerful teammates.
Having coached my children who were in sports, I understood the power of working together. Just as in sports, some are more naturally gifted and some have to word harder but both need to be coached.
Coaching for Karen and me is to help the individual team members understand their skill level in personal communication and how to work with each other.
Karen and Fred have been married for over 40 years.
